While preparing for my son's 2nd birthday, my cousin saw my eyes without glasses and it was bulging. She told me to get it check because her dad had that same symptoms, when he had thyroid problems. During that time I knew little about thyroid problems. Another cousin also noticed that I've gotten darker. "I haven't seen you this dark". So maybe it was because of Maui in May. I didn't pay much attention to it.

In Dec the family went for a vacation in the Philippines. Another cousin and aunt noticed my eyes were bulging also. They told me to get my thyroid check out.

When we got back to the US, I immediately called my physician to get an appointment. Jan 13 was the revelation day. I went to the doctor's office. I remember being an hour early for this appointment. Finally, the nurse called my name. She took my blood pressure. I ask if everything was ok. She said it's ok my blood pressure was a bit high but nothing alarming. I waited for another 30 minutes to see my doctor. Finally, the doctor arrived. She confirmed my bulging eyes. I told my doctor that my aunt and uncle on my dad's side had history of hyperthyroidism. Before she dismissed me, she ordered blood test to check my tsh levels. That night I received an email confirming that I have grave's disease and hyperthyroidism. She sent me referrals to endocrinology doctors. I remember what my cousin told me. "Make sure you have a good doctor because mine wasn't for a while. My doses were incorrect." So I went to different websites looking for a good endocrinology doctor the one that specializes in thyroid and eye disease not the diabetes concentration.
